Geology Overview

The 91自拍论坛 Bachelor of Science in Geology will teach you about the solid Earth, in particular the rocks and their minerals and fossils. You'll study and interpret the geological record to search for natural resources like gold, coal, oil, groundwater and rock material used for construction work. This major integrates a range of disciplines from field-based studies to more theoretical aspects of rocks, minerals and their behavior during Earth processes.

Geologists are scientific detectives who try to reveal the past and the future of the Earth. If you want to study the dynamics of the Earth we live on, its resources and the most economic and sustainable way to use these resources, you will find this program rewarding. Our program facilities include the Lamar Geospatial Center, a lab complete with 21 work stations and an extensive collection research software.

Geology Courses You May Take

Optical Mineralogy: In this course, the student will learn about light transmission in minerals, become familiar with the operation and care of the petrographic microscope, learn to identify minerals by optical properties and be able to recognize common and important minerals.

Mineralogy Petrology: Classification, properties, occurrence and identification of rock-forming minerals.

Structural Geology: Rock deformation and geologic structures. 

Petrology: Classification, properties, occurrence and origin of rocks. Macro and micro techniques for the identification of rocks. 

Paleontology: Principles of paleontologic interpretation including classification, morphologic analysis and identification of invertebrate and vertebrate fossils. Application of paleontology to stratigraphic correlation.
