The Dr. Victor A. Zaloom Department of Industrial Engineering also offers this degree in a "2+2 online format." This program allows you to complete the final two years of your program online with minimal travel from home. The online degree is identical to the degree earned by on-campus students.
This program allows you to learn from faculty members who are experts in supply chain management, safety, quality, logistics, reliability, operations research, design and manufacturing, project management, six sigma and "lean" engineering. You will have opportunities for learning experience options beyond the classroom including internships, co-ops, student research, conference and study abroad. All junior and senior level engineering courses are available online and in person.
Computer Applications in Idustrial Engineering: This course introduces students to computer programming and spreadsheets from the industrial engineering point of view. Problems in application areas such as operations research, production planning and scheduling, quality and inventory control will be presented.
Probability and Statistics for Engineering: Probability definitions, sample spaces, condition probability, Bayes's Theorem, independence, random variables, discrete and continuous distributions, expectation and variance, and testing hypotheses.
Work Design: Determination of work content, workstation/facility layout, work methods, and times required for various occupational jobs/tasks. Design of tasks/jobs, workplace, and work environment to increase productivity, eliminate waste, and decrease occupational injury/illness.
Industrial Management: Provides a foundation for becoming a manager in an industrial organization. Topics include leadership, strategic planning, culture change, human resources and ethics.
Industrial Engineering Systems Design: This first semester of the senior capstone course is intended to draw on the knowledge and tools ascertained previously in the students' curriculum. This course requires students to identify and analyze industrial and systems engineering problems and to design of industrial engineering systems.
As an industrial engineer, most of your work will center around the ultimate goal of helping production or manufacturing processes to run more efficiently. To be an effective industrial engineer, you need to be comfortable in a leadership role and possess the ability to work with a team.
